I recently stumbled across a really great site that I wanted to share with all of you here at SafetyGirl. It is called Live Your Dream. It says directly on their site that their mission is “a movement fiercely dedicated to ensuring every woman and girl has the opportunity to reach her full potential, be free from violence, and live her dreams.” They put up statistics to help you realize gender inequality and the challenges that some women face daily. For example, 1 in 4 high school aged girls in the United States do not graduate (according to the national women’s law center) and around the world, 150 million girls under the age of 18 are victims of sexual violence according to UNIFEM. These stats are really eye opening and are worth taking a look at.
This site raises money to be able to put women & girls through education and training programs. The two programs offered are Live Your Dream and Dream It, Be It.
To support this site, you can donate money or simply take pledges to show your appreciation and support. Below are a few examples of non-money ways you can support these amazing women.
Send a Message of Support to Girls – there are currently 1463 supporters sending messages to help adolescent girls to overcome obstacles by words of encouragement.
Pledge to End Violence Against Women – women and girls affected by domestic violence are affected for the rest of their lives. According to the NDV Hotline, 4.8 Million women in the U.S. experience domestic abuse. You can help this site raise awareness by taking a pledge along with 3585 other supporters.
There are so many ways to help support women and girls in the world. By simply looking at this website and educating yourself on these statistics can help. I think this is a great start and really commend Live Your Dream for making a difference.
